WHAT IS Acne?

Acne is one of the most common diseases in dermatology. Teenagers going through puberty most likely experience varying intensity of acne. Many people will slowly regress into early adulthood. However chronic sufferers may persist for decades.

The lesions commonly affect the face, chest, and back. In more severe cases it will affect the shoulders, upper arms, and abdomen. These areas are rich in sebaceous glands helping to secrete sebum.

SYMPTOMS

  • Nodules may become cystic or form pus

  • Erosion and bleeding from scratching

  • Scarring may form from deep cystic lesions

HOW DOES CHINESE MEDICINE AND ACUPUNCTURE HELP WITH Acne?

Western medicine uses antibiotics and topical retinoids, salicylic acid to help ease the symptoms. Some people have good effect with the drugs, but for most people it only helps to control the symptoms.

The disease process goes through an inflammatory phase systemically. Diet is very helpful if the patient adheres to a non inflammatory diet. Using Chinese Medicine we are able to identify the cause of Acne and treat it with Acupuncture, custom Chinese herbal medicine, and Chinese herbal creams, Chinese herbal masks, and face wash with no unwanted side effects. We expect to see symptom reduction within the first month and continued improvement over the course of treatments.
