Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Eczema NYC
What is Eczema?
Eczema or Atopic dermatitis refers to a heightened immune system response to allergens triggering inflammation in your body to produce red, dry, or weepy itchy skin.
Majority of cases begin during childhood and will last throughout adulthood, but can occur at any age.
Industrialized countries produce most of these cases and continues to rise.
Patients with atopic dermatitis often have a family history of allergic diseases such as asthma and allergies.
Symptoms
Itchy Skin (Hallmark symptom)
Red rashes
Blisters can be seen on the hands and soles of the feet
Erosion and bleeding from scratching
Scaling and peeling of the skin as the skin sheds through its inflammatory phase.
Thickened tough skin is also seen where areas continued to be scratched. (usually on the flexures of the body, neck, wrist, elbows, knees)
How does chinese medicine and acupuncture help with eczema?
Western medicine uses antihistamines and topical steroids to help ease the symptoms.
Long term use of topical steroids will thin and damage the barrier of the skin creating a bigger rebound effect than before.
We know that atopic dermatitis typically does not get better with just topical medicine.
The disease process goes through an inflammatory phase systemically.
Using Chinese Medicine we are able to identify the cause of eczema and treat it with Acupuncture, custom Chinese herbal medicine, and Chinese herbal creams with no unwanted side effects.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
Treating Skin dysfunction takes time as the skin goes through different repair phases. Depending on severity it will take 8-15 treatments.
We expect to see symptom reduction within the first month and continued improvement over the course of treatments.
One course of treatment is 10 visits focusing on the acute and corrective phase. As you progress through treatments you should feel improvements where we put you on observational care.
