What is rosacea?

A common chronic skin disorder affecting females at a higher ratio. And commonly affecting at ages 30+. Usually occur in people of Celtic origin. Characterized by acute phases where there is pronounced redness, flushing, inflammation, papules, and pustlues. Antibiotics and steroids are commonly used to treat this condition and has a detrimental effect when used longterm.


Chinese medicine and acupuncture treatment aims to decrease systemic inflammation, thereby reducing flushing, redness, and development of papules. In Chinese medicine Rosacea could be caused by the disharmony in the lungs, stomach, spleen, large intestine, or circulatory system. By regulating function to these organ systems we are able to reduce/eliminate the condition.

Symptoms of Rosacea

Ranges from mild to severe depending on each case. Below are some symptoms that may appear symetrically on the eyes, cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. Few cases will appear into the neck, chest, and sometimes arms.

  • Redness & telangiectasisa (visible red blood vessels) is the most common feature of this disease.

  • swollen, red, sores, or dry eyes

  • Swollen red skin around the cheeks, nose, chin area

  • Red bumps that look like acne. Not tender to the touch.

  • Active phase may see peeling of the skin

  • Thicken skin of the nose.
